Our Story

The Rodriguez Family circa 1993

In 1988, young couple Mike and Aleli invested all of their savings in a parcel of land in their hometown of Puerto Princesa.  They planned to build a home and raise a family there but, as fate would have it, Mike’s career in the military took them away from Palawan.  Though, in the years that followed, the couple resided in parts of the Philippines that were charming in their own right, they nevertheless thought wistfully of that lot in Jacana—and of the time when they could finally call it ‘home’.

A charming home for travelers

Fast forward to the year 2013, the now not-so-young couple picked up where they left off and built, not just a home for their family, but a bed and breakfast that could also become home for travelers from across the globe.

Mike and Aleli wanted to share with the world what they had always found mesmerizing about Palawan: fresh air, wide open spaces, and a diverse array of flora and fauna.

So the couple built a place that was meant to be comfortable, simple, and relaxing—a perfect canvas on which exciting new memories could be made every day.

Now managing By the Bay Jacana Bed & Breakfast are Sandra (the daughter of Mike and Aleli) and her husband BG.  They, along with their daughter Martina, call this place home and believe that travelers are not simply clients who check-in and out, but cherished guests and friends who have chosen to live a precious part of their lives here, no matter how brief.

At By the Bay, Sandra and BG make sure that each day is an opportunity for time to be spent—and well.

This place is not just a bed and breakfast.  It is a home and a family heritage, and you are invited to be their guest and become part of the blooming story that is By the Bay Jacana.
